Welcome to my  personal web page,

***Please note the diary /blog of my build can  now be found at ***

http://ukatlantisbuilder.blogspot.com/

I have been a life long modeller, covering all genres of models, including r/c helicopters, r/c cars, r/c boats, and model railways. I am also keen on digital photography and the pc, hence this personal web page.

I am still very new at this web page "lark" so bear with me, while I learn and tweak as I go :)

If like me, you have found the www, bereft of Robbe Atlantis build info, I hope you will find these pages of interest.

I intend to add as much information as I can find from the www, and together with my diary /blog of the build, I hope this will become a helpful resource centre for Robbe Atlantis owners & builders.

I have been looking for a long term build project, to keep me occupied, and take me away from lifes humdrum, and this mad world, for ages.

Having been a model boat builder for many years, I have tired of "short build fixes", until I saw this, the Robbe Atlantis  Twin Masted Gaff Schooner.

She is quite an old kit, but Robbe have done a grand job, keeping her up to date, with new revised sail material, revised motor set up, and superb quality mouldings and fittings.

She is very attractive, very spectacular, very expensive and VERY BIG !

This is to be the record of my build,  the trials & tribulations that I shall inevitably encounter.

This is not a "quickie" kit, but one that I estimate will take me 15 - 18 months to complete, I am in no rush, and being married with 2 kids and a full time job, time is not available in excess quantity !

I can escape to the inner "shed dwell" my workshop to spend half an hour, an hour or all day, as the time and the mood ( and the need ) takes me.

So check back occasionally to see the progress and the blog diary, but it WILL BE SLOW !

The models details taken from the www.robbe.com site,

Robbe Atlantis Twin-masted  Gaff Schooner to 1:20 scale

The original vessel was built in 1935 and is a 28 m long gaff-rigged schooner. The special sail arrangement on the boat makes her stand out from the more familiar ship types of her time, and for this reason she is of particular interest to the modeller. With a sail area of just on one square metre, distributed over several separate sails, and a streamlined hull with its characteristic extended keel, this imposing model offers an excellent performance and good manoeuvring capability. Although the boat is quite heavy, the draught of the Atlantis is relatively small, so shallow in-shore waters present no problem. The multiple sails give the operator plenty of scope for trimming the model to suit different wind speeds just by lowering and setting individual sails. For light winds a Genoa is available. The boat features an ingenious tensioning mechanism which means that only one screw has to be slackened on each mast when it is time to transport the "Atlantis". All the shroud settings can be left unchanged.
